Tileforge (Tileset Builder) - I got tired of buying Asset Packs
A downloadable html-tool
One tool, two jobs
Tileforge turns loose PNGs into drop-in RPG Maker MZ tileset sheets — correctly sized, correctly laid out, ready to assign in the database. It runs entirely in your browser: no install, no account, nothing uploaded.
It works fully offline as a builder, and includes an optional local-LLM generator that can create a whole coherent tileset from a single theme prompt.
What it does
- Auto-slice sheets into objects — drop a sheet, it detects each object, removes the background (transparent or plain), and cuts clean, tight, transparent pieces.
- Every RPG Maker MZ sheet, at the exact spec: Objects (B/C/D/E), Normal (A5), Ground (A2), Roof (A3), Walls (A4), Water (A1) — all 48×48.
- Autotile synthesis — feed flat, seamless textures and it builds the A2/A3/A4 autotile blocks; MZ draws the edges and corners for you.
- Smart cell fitting — Snap (fills tiles), Native (keeps exact pixels), or Fixed (force 1×2, 2×2, 3×3…), with bottom/center/top anchoring.
- Tight bin-packing, live 48px-grid previews, and clean PNG export (no grid baked in).
- Optional AI generation — connect a local Ollama model, type a theme, and get a full set (objects + ground + walls + roofs) sharing one palette. The LLM→SVG painter works on Windows/Mac/Linux today; an experimental image-model path is supported too.
- 100% offline & private — a single HTML file. The AI feature talks only to your local Ollama; nothing ever leaves your machine.
120+ battlers, ready to drop into your RPG Maker project.
Yōkai, cryptids, Norse gods, monster girls, gothic battle maids, cosmic horrors — transparent PNGs built for MZ and MV, and they work in any 2D engine. Plus three tools that do the tedious part for you: animate a sprite from a single frame, turn any PNG into a tileset, and bring your autotiles to life. Twelve releases, from $3.99.
→ itch.io/c/8090431/tilesheetssprite-assets-bundlesWho it's for
RPG Maker MZ developers who have art in the wrong shape — asset-pack sheets, AI-generated objects, mismatched sizes — and want them turned into proper, paintable tilesets in minutes instead of pixel-nudging in an image editor.
Good to know
- Tileforge is a companion browser tool that outputs PNG tilesheets — it is not an in-editor
.jsplugin. You drop its PNGs into your project's tileset slots. - Built to RPG Maker MZ's spec. MV shares the 48px tile size and sheet layout, so exports generally work there too.
- A short Instructions.txt is included in the download.
FAQ
Is this an RPG Maker plugin (.js)?
No — it's a standalone browser tool. It produces ready-to-use tileset PNGs that you assign in Database → Tilesets. Nothing is installed into your project.
Do I need the internet or an account?
No. It's one offline HTML file. Nothing is uploaded. The only network use is the optional AI feature, which connects solely to your own local Ollama.
Does it work with RPG Maker MV?
It's built for MZ, but MV uses the same 48px tiles and sheet layout, so the exports generally drop in fine.
Do I need an LLM / AI to use it?
No. The builder — slicing, keying, packing, and every sheet export — works with zero AI. Generation is an optional extra.
What do I need for the AI generation?
A local install of Ollama and a text model. Open the tool from http://localhost (see Instructions) so the browser can talk to Ollama. A small code-capable model (e.g. a recent qwen2.5-coder or llama3.1) gives the cleanest results.
The AI "Connect" button fails but Ollama is running — why?
It's a browser CORS restriction, not a bug. Serve the tool from http://localhost, or set OLLAMA_ORIGINS=* and fully restart Ollama. The tool's Connect message tells you which case you're in.
Can I use the tiles commercially?
Yes — anything you create or generate with Tileforge is yours to use. (You are responsible for the licensing of source art you import and of any AI models you run.)
The background shows up around my objects on the map.
Use the Slice tab (it keys the background out), raise Tolerance/Edge cleanup, and keep fitting on Snap so objects fill their tiles.
Requirements
- A modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox).
- RPG Maker MZ (MV likely compatible).
- Optional: Ollama, for AI generation.
